SENIOR ECOLOGIST– EAST MIDLANDS

RammSanderson is recruiting a Senior Ecologist (both Full and Part-Time applications welcomed) to work from our East Midlands office (although we can be flexible on location for the right candidate).

The successful applicant will have demonstrable skills and experience in Ecology and will meet the following requirements and desirable skills:

 

Job Requirements

  • Undergraduate Degree in ecology, environmental science or related biology (postgraduate qualification advantageous)
  • Full Member of CIEEM
  • Demonstrable knowledge of current relevant environmental/wildlife legislation
  • Bat Class 2 Natural England Survey Licence
  • Extensive fieldwork experience including;
  • Proven experience in the field; principally in regard to Bats, Great Crested Newts and Habitats
  • Competent Phase 1 Habitat surveyor with FISC Level 3 (or equivalent demonstrable experience)
  • Capable of managing large projects which requires multiple technical inputs
  • Confident analysis and reporting ability; able to record, interpret and present scientific data for a wide range of projects and uses.
  • Written and held Protected Species Licences
  • Capable of Ecological Impact Assessment and Environmental Statement Chapter production
  • Commercially Enthusiastic; willing and confident in liaising with clients, key contacts and suppliers and able to quote and tender for new work.
  • A current full UK Driving Licence

Desirable Experiences

  • CS38 Tree Climbing certification (or willingness to undertake this training)
  • Other Protected Species Licences and experience welcomed

SENIOR AQUATIC ECOLOGIST/HYDROECOLOGIST – EAST MIDLANDS

RammSanderson are recruiting a Senior/Principal Consultant Aquatic Ecologist to work from our East Midlands office (although we can be flexible on location for the right candidate).

We are seeking an ambitious senior consultant to assist in the development of our Aquatic Ecology department, working closely to develop a team and with our wider ecologists and environmental consultants.

The successful applicant will have demonstrable skills and experience in Aquatic ecology / hydroecology and will meet the following requirements and desirable skills:

Job Requirements:

  • Undergraduate Degree in ecology, environmental science or related biology (post graduate qualification advantageous)
  • Full Member of relevant Professional body (CIEEM, CIWEM, IEMA, IFM etc.)
  • Demonstrable knowledge of current relevant environmental/wildlife legislation
  • First aid & water safety qualification – along with knowledge of wider health and safety issues, procedure, COSHH etc.
  • Extensive field work experience including;
    • Certified (EA accredited) River Habitat Survey and River Corridor Assessment,
    • Field identification skills and broad knowledge of riparian and freshwater ecology/habitats
    • Experience leading fish, macroinvertebrates, crayfish, macrophytes, riparian mammal, Invasive non-native species surveys & e-DNA sample collection.
    • Water Framework Directive assessment experience, including geomorphology, macrophyte and fisheries surveys, desk studies, analysis and reporting.
  • Proven experience in field and laboratory analysis; namely aquatic macroinvertebrates, larval fish and diatoms, use of industry specific indices such as RICT, BMWP/ASPT and PSYM.
  • Confident analysis and reporting ability; able to record, interpret and present scientific data for a wide range of projects and uses.
  • Commercially Enthusiastic with desire to help develop and grow the aquatic department. Willing and confident in liaising with clients, key contacts and suppliers and able to quote and tender for new work.
  • A current full UK Driving Licence

 

Desirable:

  • White Clawed Crayfish survey licence & survey experience
  • Water quality/ habitat condition monitoring (Chemical, pH, dissolved oxygen, flow monitoring etc)
  • Understanding or Biodiversity Impact Assessment and experience of assessing aquatic habitats to inform BIA calculations (MORPH)
  • Fisheries management
  • Wildlife disease testing
  • Experience with Water Framework Directive Risk Assessment
  • Boat handling qualification
  • Experience with GIS, data capture & processing
  • Experience with Laboratory accreditation requirements
  • Ability to advise on water quality management, on rive, lake and pond restoration and the control of undesirable species and algal blooms.
  • Ability to identify freshwater macroinvertebrates to species level
  • Ability to identify specialist groups of macrophytes (such as stoneworts) to species level

ASSISTANT ARBORICULTURALIST – EAST MIDLANDS OR WEST MIDLANDS

RammSanderson are looking for an Assistant Arboriculturist to join our expanding arboricultural team based at the East or West Midlands office (although we can be flexible on location for the right candidate).

You will be involved in carrying out a varied range of arboricultural surveys and producing corresponding reports for a broad client base. With a main focus on onsite data collection following the guidance of BS5837:2012 for trees on development sites. A sound level of arboricultural knowledge and experience is therefore essential to enable you to carry out surveys with the minimum of supervision.

RammSanderson provide a modern and professional arboricultural service, with a team based approach to meeting our Client’s requirements. The ability to communicate both within the project team and directly to Clients is therefore essential. As is the ability to plan and monitor your own work load to meet deadlines and deliver the project brief.

Job Requirements:

  • Arboricultural (or closely related) qualification to a minimum of Level 3.
  • Be able to demonstrate a good level of arboricultural knowledge – tree identification, pests and diseases, visual tree assessment, tree management, relevant legislation.
  • The ability to carry out arboricultural surveys, including undertaking BS5837 assessments.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • A current full UK Driving Licence

Desirable:

  • Professional Tree Inspection qualification
  • Plan production using AutoCAD
  • Technical grade (or higher) membership of the Arboricultural Association
  • Practical experience in arboriculture and habitat management with City & Guilds/LANTRA qualifications such as Chainsaw (CS30/CS31, CS34 & CS35), Brushcutter, Use of Woodchipper
  • CS38 Tree Climbing & Aerial Rescue advantageous.

SEASONAL ECOLOGISTS – UK WIDE

Due to a growing demand and an already healthy start to 2021 we’re looking to add to our team with seasonal postings from March onwards. We’re looking to fill a number of roles of varying experience levels and looking for enthusiastic people to join. You’ll be working alongside our experience team helping to deliver a broad range of projects and surveys. you’ll primarily be assisting in field surveys as well as helping on mitigation sites including translocation projects.
