Associate Ecologist / Team Lead – Ecology, Bollington

Salary £50,000.00 to 60,000+/year (Full time) dependent on experience (+company car/car allowance & benefits package)

We are looking for applications from Ecology professionals with substantial consultancy experience to take on technical leadership and help develop and shape our team of excellent ecologists. You will have a proven track record in consultancy, with proven business development, client and project management and technical experience and will work closely with the Board of Directors in expanding our Ecology portfolio and driving forward continued growth and quality.

Our current team of over nearly 100 staff, 10 located in our North West Bollington office. They will benefit from your leadership and vision for their development and continued improvement.  We are looking for someone to inspire the team and help us foster our core values of integrity, technical excellence and expediency.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Extensive ecological consultancy background
  • Full membership of CIEEM (Chartered Ecologist preferrable)
  • Experience managing teams of consultants, giving guidance and feedback, developing teams of technical staff and ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of your team
  • Extensive project management experience, ensuring projects are delivered within time and budget requirements.
  • Experience in Bid writing and have a focus on commercial development within the region as we seek to expand the team and our offering locally.
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant aspects of UK and EU environmental Legislation and national and local planning policies and processes
  • Experience in reviewing technical reports, providing support and clear constructive feedback, promoting professional development of the team
  • Experience in producing and reviewing high quality technical reports,
  • Have a clear, up to date understanding of Biodiversity Net Gain, Biodiversity Impact Assessment, UKHABS survey methodology and the DEFRA metric calculators. 

You will:

  • Work closely with the team in providing sound and relevant technical advice
  • Lead the recruitment and selection process, appraisal and review process and nominate team members who are performing above their level for pay reviews and promotions
  • Lead on engagement, communicating effectively and providing high quality, expert advice to clients and stakeholders and environmental regulators.
  • Collates and gives feedback constructively 
  • Be a conduit between the Directors and the team, helping us set the strategic direction of the team and instilling the core values of the company.
  • Support the growth, development, wellbeing and resilience of the team through enthusiastic line management & leadership
  • Support the team’s professional development working closely with the senior team and Directors to monitor progress against appraisal targets and the CIEEM competency framework
  • Develop networks across disciplines and promote the services of the wider business – working collaboratively to create effective solutions.
  • Contribute to the identification, bidding for and winning of work – working with the Directors and Operations team.
  • Be an excellent communicator, adept at resolving conflict and able to negotiate a path through any situation swiftly and effectively, whether involving clients, team members, the public or stakeholders
